An internationally renowned construction project meets top-quality metalworking from Germany: For the striking “light eyes” at the new main railway station in Stuttgart, WECUBEX Rohrtechnik (WRT) is supplying a total of 21,500 metres of stainless steel tubing to the renowned company seele from Gersthofen. The seele Group is a globally leading façade construction company that creates complex façades from high-tech materials.
The so-called light eyes are key architectural elements of Stuttgart 21. Their openings in the roof structure allow natural light to enter the new underground railway station. seele was commissioned with the demanding façade cladding and is once again relying on WRT’s expertise.
The stainless steel round tubes supplied have a cross-section of 40 x 1.5 mm and are manufactured from material 1.4462 (duplex stainless steel), which is known for its excellent corrosion resistance and high mechanical load-bearing capacity – essential properties for long-term outdoor use in such a major project.
“Projects like these show how important reliable quality and delivery performance are – particularly when it comes to demanding architectural solutions,” says the WRT team.
With a project volume of around €200,000, this order underlines the importance of the collaboration between seele and WRT. This is not an isolated case: seele has previously relied on WECUBEX tubes for façade solutions, including projects such as:
- the shopping centre in Southampton, England
- the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia – an international prestige project of exceptional scale.
During the latest site visit in Stuttgart, the WRT team was personally guided through the project by seele site manager Michael Hartl. Particularly impressive was the structural solution using the stainless steel tubes as both a load-bearing and design element.
